"We welcome visitors of all ages and backgrounds from across the state to join us in the San Angelo to experience this world-renown collection."

The Visions of America collection is the most comprehensive traveling exhibition of American art in the nation. The collection features pieces by noted American artists, including John Singleton Copley, Frederic Church, Thomas Cole, Georgia O'Keeffe, Thomas Hart Benton, Andrew Wyeth, and N.C. Wyeth. The collection is especially rich in American Impressionism, with representation from artists such as William Merritt Chase, Theodore Robinson, Childe Hassam, John Henry Twatchman, Willard Metcalf and Maurice Prendergast and many others.

The paintings are exhibited chronologically, tracing the changes in American art over the centuries. Beginning with its origins in the Colonial period and early Republic, the story of American art continues with the development of landscape painting, images of women and their shifting roles in society, and the impact of European styles, notably Impressionism. The exhibition also vividly illustrates the divergent paths American artists traveled in the 20th century, from Realism to Modernism to Abstract Expressionism.
