From Recycled to Rescued: The World of Skeeter and Linda Bockman
This exhibit features the folk art of Skeeter and Linda, who work collaboratively
on their artwork. For many years the couple has been turning discarded objects
into charming creatures. Working with shovel blades, nuts, bolts, nails, and
every imaginable type of metal, Skeeter transforms these objects into giraffes,
hippos, lions, tigers and numerous other creatures big and small. Once constructed,
Linda takes up her paint brush and gives them faces and a coat of paint. For
the exhibit at the museum the couple wish to stress the importance of recycling
and urge everyone to think twice before throwing things in the trash. They
have also focused their attention on making animals predominantly found in
Africa, many which are on the list of endangered species. All creatures, they
feel, are important and have the right to be here.
