San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts

The 16th San Angelo National Ceramic Competition 2006

April 21 - June 25, 2006

The San Angelo National Ceramic Competition is a biennial event in which over 1,000 entries submitted by ceramic artists across North America compete to be selected for an exhibit of just over 100 pieces representing a diverse cross-section of work. From intricate installations and sculptures to traditional vessels and tile pieces, an array of styles and techniques fill the galleries with such a broad collection that any visitor can find a favorite piece.

This year's competition was juried by Ann Lancaster who is the former executive director and cofounder of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and is currently a project consultant for the Texas Commission on the Arts Craft Initiative.

For each National Ceramic Competition the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts invites an artist well known in the national ceramic community to exhibit current work and lead a day long workshop at the Old Chicken Farm Art Center demonstrating the techniques they employ. This year the invited artist is David Furman whose work was recently featured on the cover of the October, 2005 issue of the Ceramics Monthly magazine.
