The Seventeenth San Angelo National Ceramic Competition is sponsored by Trinity Ceramic Supply, Inc. of Dallas, Texas. This show has been organized by and will be held at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. Angelo State University works in close cooperation with the Museum. The exhibition highlights a broad range of attitudes in the clay medium from functional to sculptural work. The Museum devotes its entire space to the show.
The competition is open to all artists who are residents of the United States,
Canada, or Mexico. All work, both functional and sculptural, must have been
completed within the last two years. Works previously accepted into this competition
are ineligible.
All work will be judged by 35mm color slides or digital images. Slides must be plastic or cardboard mount only. Please indicate top of work. In lieu of slides, artists may submit jpeg images via CD (PC format and no Power Point.) Jpegs must be high resolution (at least 300 dpi) and the CD must contain only images intended for submission. Label files with artist's name and number corresponding to entry form; mark artist's name on CD. No submissions via e-mail.
Enter one slide per work unless more than one view is necessary. There is a maximum of two slides per work. Please indicate top of work. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of slides. All slides of accepted work will be retained until after the show. Any work that differs appreciably from the slide will be rejected at the discretion of the Juror.
There is a nonrefundable entry of $20 per artist, with a maximum of three
works per individual. Make check or money order payable to the San Angelo
Museum of Fine Arts. Slides or CD's, entry form, entry fee and self-addressed
stamped envelope must be postmarked by February 4, 2008.

First Place $2000, Second Place $1500, Third Place $1000
Tile Prix Primo $ 750
The Juror will award a special prize sponsored by the Tile Heritage Foundation,
in cooperation with the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, to the tile maker
whose tile in the jurors estimation best reflects the ceramic traditions
of America.
The Museum will take the greatest care in handling all work. The work will
be insured while at the Museum. Work not for sale should have a stated value.
The artist is responsible for insuring the works in transit.
Sales will be encouraged and there will be a 20% commission. Last year approximately
30% of the work exhibited was sold. Furthermore, the Museum typically purchases
several works from the exhibition to add to its permanent collection. The
collection has already traveled to eight other museums.
Accepted work may be hand delivered or shipped prepaid to arrive no later
than April 4, 2008. Artists are responsible for shipping charges. Shipping
instructions will be sent to all participants.
A complimentary catalog, that includes a photograph of a work by each participant,
will be sent to all accepted artists after the close of the show.
1. All works must remain during the duration of the competition, April 18
- June 22, 2008
2. The competition reserves the right to photograph works for publicity purposes.
3. Payment of the entry fee signifies the artists understanding and acceptance
of the rules and conditions of the competition.
In conjunction with the exhibition, several activities are planned. There
will be a panel discussion concerning contemporary ceramics held at Angelo
State University on April 18th at 1:30 pm. The panel will include the Museum
Director, the Invited Artist and the Juror. The Invited Artist, Jack Earl,
of Lakeview, Ohio will lead a workshop at The Old Chicken Farm Art Center
on Saturday, April 19th. Numerous other events of interest to artists will
occur April 18 - 21.
