Anna
Stanfield Harris is curator for the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi, Mississippi
where she has worked for over 4 years. Harris has published essays and articles
on George Ohr and Mississippi Art. She has participated in panels and lectures
on disaster planning and mitigation at universities and conferences across
the United States.
Ms. Harris is active in the regional arts community and has curated and juried
exhibitions. Moist recently, Harris curated the OOMA traveling show, George
Ohr Rising: the Emergence of an American Master, which is currently touring
the United States and Canada. She worked in conjunction with curators on a
variety of exhibitions including: George Ohr: Mischievous Master at the Walter
Anderson Museum of Art, On the Midway: George Ohrs Journey into a New
Century, Enduring Words: A Collection of Asian Seals and The Mingei Tradition:
Pots for Everyday Use; Shoji Hamada, Warren McKenzie, Randy Johnston and Will
Ruggles/Douglass Rankin.
Ms. Harris has taught 20th century and American art history at William Carey
University and lectures frequently at the Ohr-OKeefe Museum of Art.
Since Hurricane Katrina, Ms. Harris is developing new ways for the museum
to reach the changing community. Programming focuses on reviving dynamic arts
education on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. These projects include a school assembly
program performed by high school students, regular free childrens art
days, juried art shows and collecting oral histories on the loss of important
coastal architecture.
