SAMFA Green Scene

This page is being added to our website because our staff and trustees are making a strong commitment on behalf of the Museum to be leaders in our community in conservation and encouraging creative ways to approach environmental issues. On this webpage we will report on our own internal progress and on efforts we are making to address this vital issue. We will also feature green links at the bottom of this page where you can learn more about green living.

Progress on the Water Education Facility

Members of the Board of Trustees of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Architect Henry Schmidt (fourth from left) and General Contractor David Dusek (fifth from right) gathered for a brief ceremony and groundbreaking on December 20, 2007 for the next stage of San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts Oakes Street properties. Bishop of the Diocese of San Angelo Michael Pfeifer (far right front row) offered a blessing during the ceremony.

The 1st Annual Eco Fair Family Day took place on October 20th, 2007 at the Art Museum. The day started with a dedication ceremony of the new Acquatic Eco-System Corridor which finished the link between the Paseo and the Concho River. Hands-on activities, music, demonstrations, exhibitor booths, and food vendors were open all day offering fun for the whole family. With recycle bins, the Trash to Treasure Art Exhibit, Eco-awareness songs and green exhibitors, the day-long festival stressed the importance of being good stewards of the environment and how we can learn to change our own habits to the save the planet.

Green Partners:
You may have noticed the funny colored buildings on Oakes Street in front of the Museum. One of those buildings is scheduled to make water ecology history- at least in San Angelo. We are currently planning to partner with the Upper Colorado River Authority (UCRA) to create a unique sustainable/educational facility that we hope will encourage conservation awareness in the greater Concho Valley community.

We are also working with Angelo State University and the San Angelo Independent School District to create a Gifted and Talented Program that will focus on local groups working with students to solve long-term problems related to our community, resulting in college credit for the students.
